Last August, I found myself on an unplanned tour in Europe for 14 days. It felt so good being constantly on the move, trying new things and experiencing new places. There were so many possibilities, as per cities we could visit. My brothers were going haywire with suggestions. “Daddy lets go to Rome” “I want to see Allianz Arena“, me I boldly suggested “Greece!” But then my father’s proverbial reply “My friend, do you think money grows on trees?” was cue for us to shut up and come back to reality :(. Oh well, moving on.
Barcelona is one of those cities that gets you in a dreamy state of luxe wear and expensive designer clothes. It initiates you into the cult of shopaholics and impulse buyers the second after you step through arrivals. High street and luxury stores would lure you with covetable pieces impeccably arranged at store windows, and for me it took a few jaw dropping seconds to take it all in. Well honestly, the man in charge had already laid out our budgets, so except I wanted to travel back home with just 5 pieces of clothing, I had to curb my thirst.
Morning had me craving breakfast in bed and I spent the first few minutes absorbing the gorgeous scenery and snapping away of course, while prepping for the day’s tour.
Sadly though, our afternoon was spent on the not so interesting side of town. The boys wanted to see Camp Nou, the famous *rolls eye* Barcelona stadium and well, I was down for a stroll on the infamous beach, camera in hand, capturing landscapes and random good looking people . But when the ratio is 4 to 1, you can guess who won.
The drawback of having little time when on tour is that you hardly get to see much of anything and the experience is watered down. Our visit was short lived, a day to be precise, and before dusk, we were hurrying through streets, hopping in and out of trains, running when we had to, just to catch the flight to our next destination. Trust me, all that adrenaline kept me agile and feeling a lot like an adventurer, but I would have preferred to bask in the beauty of the city, sit with friends at cafés and restaurants after a hectic day of shopping, experience the night life, meet a foreign man, kiss him maybe. Basically explore the city, spend money, try new things and have a good and memorable time with friends.
Since we left, I’ve been longing to go back, and I know I will ^_^
