OmogeMuRa’s summer edit look book from the mind of the ‘photog’

Balanced in front of my laptop, part writing this article, part praying for this thunderstorm to give me a break and have some mercy on my other plans for the day, I realize that I’ve actually never written about an editorial that I shot by myself but for someone else.  Sure, I put in the odd word under instagram posts, but never anything really substantial. Is this even a thing? Do photographers do that? It feels odd. I feel like I’m cheating. I’m not cheating. My friends tell me I’m weird and I believe them.

I was genuinely excited about shooting Omogemura’s Summer Editorial look book(‘rainy season’ in Nigeria, if we’re nitpicking) for a couple of reasons; First and foremost, I love this job of shutter clicking (click click click click!!). Secondly, I didn’t know what to expect, call it suspense, but eventually this suspense morphed into anticipation in the month between the first call and the shoot. The whole team involved exchanged ideas via email and as always, it was fun to be a part of the whole melting pot of ideas. Shoot day was splendid, even though the weather wasn’t exactly ideal. We expected some light drizzles so we could have an excuse to use an umbrella in the true spirit of the season, but it turned out to be one of those days where it would have been nice to not have been a few degrees from burning to a crisp.
While I’m in no place to discuss the individual pieces in detail (I’m no fashion writer but I know one or two things), I can tell you that the outfits showcased in this look book were assembled from an eclectic range of designers and are very accessibly styled (Impeccably by Deola and Edwin). Outfits you can wear to the mall, to a lunch date, dinner, a picnic, a day at the beach (or cooling off with a cocktail by the pool), maybe even to church, the list goes on. These selections are particularly useful because our climate over here doesn’t exactly give us the most dynamic weather conditions and they’re also fun because…..come on just look at all those colors! I’m gonna go now.
