Orange Culture S/S 16 | The Things We Want

Orange Culture unveiled its spring/summer 2016 at the Constellation Africa Show in Florence at Pitti Uomo 88 -a platform that highlights creative and contemporary fashion culture emanating from the African continent.

The lookbook released two weeks later, re-emphasized that Bayo, creative director of Orange Culture is remarkably brilliant when it comes to the organization of his fabric story. Not only does he use clothes to showcase Nigerian culture, but he also stays connected to his roots and continues to promote other creatives through collaborations.

Just as his collections are a realization of stories in living form, the ‘Etched Journey‘ S/S 16 connects to a childhood memory of growing up in the metropolitan city of Lagos -etched on the emotional and symbiotic relationship between a fisher man and his canoe.

What’s even more exciting is that Orange Culture highlights the things we care about, like art and ethical handmade products. Cue the pieces created from this season’s collaboration, which features an embroidered “spoken canoe” illustrated by a Nigerian artist, and bags handmade in collaboration with O’eclat and the Treefairfax brand.

One of the best things about Orange Culture is the androgyny of the clothes the line produces. At any given time, you could spot a man looking fashion-forward and edgy or a woman looking sensational in the same Orange Culture piece. There’s always a piece or two we covet from each of his collections and that makes Orange Culture (in our opinion) one of the most essential menswear brands on the African scene.

Orange Culture is more than a clothing line, it is a “movement” for a creative class of people that are “self-aware, expressive, explorative and art-loving nomads”.
