“South”, Henriette Botha A/W 15

Insta-patrolling has become an addictive hobby. It’s one of the ways we find the amazing things we share. Last wednesday, we caught a sneak peek of Henriette Botha’s Autumn/Winter ’15 campaign on Elle Magazine SA’s Instagram page and have been on close watch for the full package.

We absolutely love jewelry, and though, our preference leans towards Afrocentric and tribal pieces, Botha’s collection gives a taste of southern traditions with a mix of materials that we can’t say “No” to. Brass, bamboo and cotton thread meet semi precious stone beads, crystals and glass beads combined with a lot of gold and silver plating to create a line of clean colorful jewelry that’s both bold and minimal.

Tassels make a memorable appearance and bead-work with a bit of minimal knotting, bright threads and exquisite bamboo textures count as notable elements.

Henriette Botha is a jewelry brand based in South Africa, with the latest campaign featuring Nigerian model Emy Ozori. The collection, South, was inspired by the prints and patterns of Brazil and the boldness of Mexico mingled with the vibrancy of Sicily.

South is made up of statement pieces to be worn with attitude and confidence, balanced with delicate, feminine jewellery for women who prefer their accessories to be more understated.

Winter doesn’t necessarily imply a darker colour palette and moody hues. With this collection, I wanted to lift the spirit and create pieces for all seasons. This drew me to the south, to cities in Central America that celebrate a warmer climate and embrace colour, prints and bold contrasts.

The use of traditional crafts such as beading and weaving make up the basis of this range, with metal casts made from beads, brass plate and chains, Czech glass beads and bamboo and cotton thread. Each piece in the South collection has been made and polished by hand to create unique pieces that will endure for many seasons to come.
